Several of our physicians have additional training and/or certification in other medical specialties including obstetric anesthesiology, critical care, cardiothoracic anesthesiology, regional anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology, and acute pain management.
All patients receiving anesthesia at Unity Point Health-Meriter are cared for by a physician anesthesiologist member of Madison Anesthesiology Consultants, LLP. A small number of our patients, generally those who are healthy or undergoing low-risk anesthetics, may also be cared for by a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA). A CAA is a non-physician, specialty-trained member of the anesthesia care team. CAAs provide anesthesia care under the direct supervision of a physician anesthesiologist. If you are cared for by a CAA, the supervising physician anesthesiologist will meet you before surgery to discuss the anesthetic plan, be physically present for all critical portions of your anesthetic and surgery, and be immediately available at all other times.
